| Vampire of the Mists | August 2008 | A vampire novel which is part of the Ravenloft series. A slightly different take on the Vampire novel, with an Elf vampire. Reasonably readable throughout, ended a bit weirdly though. Almost like a TV show or Movie where they feel they have to leave it open for a comeback. Might have been better to just finish it off. | ||
| Ghostmaker | August 2008 | This is the first of the Gaunts Ghosts novels, which are part of the Warhammer 40,000 series. It introduced the Ghosts, and their homeworld Tanith, along with a lot of the characters that I'm sure will feature in the rest of the series. The battle scenes were well described, but it almost felt like a bunch of short stories. The final story/chapter was the best, and introduced Lilith & the Eldar, which I hope reappear later. | ||
| Own Goal - Tom Clancys Net force explorers | July 2008 | Another of the Net force explorer series, its interesting to read some of the different things the various authors have put into their Virtual Reality experiences | ||
| The Deadliest Game | July 2008 | Nearly finished my supply of the Net Force Explorer books, but this one has a reasonable description of an online adventure type game which kept it interesting. It seems that in almost all of these books, one of the Explorers goes slightly outside the limits they're supposed to, succeeds anyway, gets told off by the Net Force guy - James Winters, but is still allowed to stay on the force because what they did was such an excellent job. | ||
| Cloak and Dagger | July 2008 | Another Net force explorer book, kids got into a bit more trouble, a bit closer to danger. Not bad. | ||
| Runaways | July 2008 | The final Net Force Explorers book I have, a lot more "real world" with this one, not a bad story, but very similar to the others. | ||
| Please Explain | July 2008 | Dr Karl at his best, explaining everyday things from your day to day life. From Bacteria vs Virus to Reincarnation, his books are always entertaining, visit your ABC shop and grab one for yourself ;-) | ||
| Virtual Vandals | July 2008 | Vandalisation in the virtual world, interesting idea. | ||
| Cold Case - Tom Clancys Net force explorers | June 2008 | Trashy teenage fun, but with a virtual reality twist. | ||
| Deathworld - Tom Clancys Net force explorers | June 2008 | Trashy teenage fun, but with a virtual reality twist. | ||
| Gameprey - Tom Clancys Net force explorers | June 2008 | Trashy teenage fun, but with a virtual reality twist. | ||
| High Wire - Tom Clancys Net force explorers | June 2008 | Trashy teenage fun, but with a virtual reality twist. | ||
| Shadow of Honour - Tom Clancys Net force explorers | May 2008 | Trashy teenage fun, but with a virtual reality twist. | ||
| Eyes of Silver | May 2008 | Great tale of a land with magic and some stangely similar things to ours, but slightly different. Magic allows them to fly and steer baloons, increase their armour strength and weapons skills. A great read, now I have to get the Preceding novel - Once a Hero | ||
| Skeleton Crew | April 2008 | The short stories continue. | ||
| The robots of Dawn | March 2008 | Another quite nice Asimov novel. Detective angle. | ||
| Reave the Just | March 2008 | Second time through this excellent collection of short stories | ||
| The Sunborn | March 2008 | Wow, this guy thinks outside the circle, have to read the previous ones | ||
| Prey | February 2008 | A version of the whole "Nano technology will kill us all" | ||
| A time of war | February 2008 | |||
| A time of Justice | February 2008 | |||
| The lost city of ZORK | February 2008 | Trashy fun - takes me back to those text advertune games | ||
| The Spear | February 2008 | |||
| Back from the Brink | February 2008 | Interesting non-fiction on how a farmer in New South Wales, Australia used some new techniques to return the farm to a much healthier state. | ||
| SKUNKWORKS | January 2008 | Interesting tales of Lockheed's SKUNK WORKS | ||
| Chronicles of Narnia | January 2008 | A little "young" for my tastes, sort of like Harry Potter is written for the younger reader. Not surprising, of course. |
